STRENGTHENING WOMEN WITHOUT PREJUDICE
"What are the ways to promote and empower women in a male-dominated sector?" There are plenty of ways.
One of the most essential and important ones is, first and foremost,to give visibility to the issue, to address it,and to lead by example as a role model.
I strongly believe in the power of example and the importance of role models.
I've experienced this myself throughout my career.
I was always encouraged and guided by strong women.
It began in my childhood with my mother. She had the mindset that we could achieve anything, and she always supported my development; she still does.
She backs me, helping with the children, among other things.
So she's been an amazing partner on my path.Other strong women also supported me.
I was one of the first women in my company to take on a leadership role while working part-time.
And this is something important, because women are always dealing the fact that when they decide to have children, they usually pause their carreers and often don’t return to full-time work.
Yet they remain highly trained professionals, who are motivated and committed and who, of course, want to progress and grow in their careers.
And it's then that it's important to provide flexible work models:not just full-time,but also the option of part-time,job sharing, and other options to open new perspectives.
Empowerment is also essential. My experience shows me,and the way I was raised and have lived, that women are, by nature, more self-critical and less likely to step into a leading position.
It's in the nature of things, perhaps also because of our upbringing and what matters to us.
And there's also an endless amount of research and studies.
What matters here is leading by example,to empower, to encourage, and to show that it's necessary to step up,to take personal responsibility,to stand up for oneself, and to demand it, too.
For me, a fundamental part of my approach to supporting women is offering empowerment training and coaching sessions to bring women forward and take leading roles.
I believe it's important to create a structure,to design a specific environment for it, because it doesn't appear by itself, some sort of structure must be established.
And...Men are great at building networks and making use of them.
We women still have a lot to learn, but my experience has shown me that a women's network is a tremendous asset to develop, because it enables collaboration, unity, and networking to create momentum and be effective together.
